Wind from the Highway is a short album of original alt country and bluegrass songs inspired by the gothic malaise of the Yukon. Set against the realities of a crushing housing crisis and continued environmental degradation in the territory\, these songs are some reflections on the changes that can happen in landscapes and the ever-increasing pace of expansion in all the places we live. With Ryan McNally on pedal steel\, Mike O’Brien on electric guitar\, and Jean-Philippe Demers Lelotte on upright bass.\n\nLe violoniste et auteur-compositeur Kieran Poile a sorti son premier EP Wind From the Highway en mai 2023. Wind from the Highway est un court album de chansons originales alt country et bluegrass inspirées par le malaise gothique du Yukon. Avec pour toile de fond les réalités d’une crise du logement écrasante et la dégradation continue de l’environnement dans le territoire\, ces chansons sont des réflexions sur les changements qui peuvent survenir dans les paysages et le rythme toujours croissant de l’expansion dans tous les endroits où nous vivons. Avec Ryan McNally à la pedal steel\, Mike O’Brien à la guitare électrique et Jean-Philippe Demers Lelotte à la contrebasse.\n\n\nRyan :\nhttps://ryanmcnallymusic.bandcamp.com/…/steppin-down-south\n\nWhile he’s best known for his interpretative playing of traditional acoustic blues\, jazz and old time music\, audiences can’t help but notice the influence that Northern living has had on his music. For the past 13 years McNally has called Whitehorse\, YK his home.\n\nOriginally from rural southern Quebec\, Ryan first discovered jazz and blues by uncovering a huge collection of ‘78 records that belonged to his grandfather. Then\, as a teen\, his curiosity for the sound and history anchored his love for the genres and it’s only grown stronger since.\n\nHis first album Down Home (2012)\, was recorded live by CBC North and received a feature on the popular radio show Saturday Night Blues\, hosted by Holgar Peterson.\n\nIn 2017\, his second album\, Steppin’ Down Southwas nominated for Blues Artist Of The Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. That year Ryan and his band\, also had the privilege to perform for Prince William and Princess Kate during their visit to the Yukon.\n\nMcNally has become known for his diversity as a multi-instrumentalist. He plays guitar\, harmonica\, mandolin\, violin and banjo\, all in many different styles. Whether performing solo or with his band\, his music is grounded in the legacy of the generations of players that came before him. All the while he continues to push the boundaries of his own signature sound.\n\nBien qu’il soit surtout connu pour son interprétation du blues acoustique traditionnel\, du jazz et de la musique ancienne\, le public ne peut s’empêcher de remarquer l’influence que la vie dans le Nord a eue sur sa musique. Depuis 13 ans\, McNally vit à Whitehorse\, au Yukon.\n\nOriginaire d’une région rurale du sud du Québec\, Ryan a découvert le jazz et le blues en découvrant une énorme collection de disques 78 tours qui appartenait à son grand-père. Dans un spectacle intime\, elle dévoile les chansons pop romantiques de son nouvel album Petite chose. Épaulée d’Emmanuel Trottier à la batterie\, Marquise Desmarais\, fière citoyenne de la contrée d’Hochelaga\, vous convie à une sympathique soirée.\n\n✥\n\nAuteur-compositeur-interprète d’origine témiscabitibienne\, Jean-Christophe Lessard nous livre un folk-rock éthéré à saveur doucement engagée.\n\nGrandi entre la forêt et la Fonderie Horne\, à Rouyn-Noranda\, c’est en autodidacte qu’il apprend la musique\, au contact de vieilles guitares. Après une maîtrise en sciences sur les changements climatiques\, puis la construction de maisons écologiques\, l’envie de faire de la musique le rattrape.\nSuite à un EP sacré « Coup de coeur » du Journal de Montréal en 2020\, il dévoilait son premier album complet\, « Nous resterons vivants »\, le 22 avril 2022\, à l’occasion du Jour de la Terre. Un opus folk velouté à la Nick Drake\, aux splendides envolées de cordes\, habité d’une poésie riche de grands espaces\, engagée et porteuse d’espoir.\n\nAccompagné des prolifiques Louis-Jean Cormier (ft. sur « Les cigales »)\, Amélie Mandeville (réalisation) et Martin Lizotte (piano/claviers)\, Lessard reçoit la belle part des critiques pour ce premier disque. DESCRIPTION:Jeunesse Cosmique présente une lévitation tout en douceur avec partage de cosmique de deux albums qui voudront réchauffer vos cœurs en hiver.\nfumerolles – « cicadoidea »\nL’album regroupe des enregistrements réalisés de 2018 à 2021.\nLes versions brutes de ces pièces étaient partagées avec un réseau postal de correspondant.e.s et évoluaient en s’inspirant des œuvres visuelles reçues en échange. Principalement composé dans les vapes des étés chauds au son des cigales à la fenêtre.\n==\nLes séquences fragmentées d’un synthétiseur digital côtoient les expérimentations brutes d’une machine DIY\, dans une composition formée par la dualité entre des espaces chaotiques et contrôlés. Ces textures et motifs se superposent\, se brisent et se répondent en guidant l’imaginaire\, comme le ferait la trame sonore d’un film inventé.\n—–\ntout feu – « les monstres dorment encore »\n« Les monstres dorment encore » est le premier album de tout feu\, un projet de folk-éclectique mené par mathieu hb. L’album explore des superpositions d’arrangements acoustiques et électroniques\, laissant entendre des chansons douces et planantes.\nInitialement paru sur l’étiquette ultra indépendante pit pit records\, l’album revit maintenant en format cassette grâce à l’incroyable équipe de jeunesse cosmique: bing paffff pow miaow.\n==\nPour l’occasion\, tout feu viendra faire son seul concert montréalais prévu pour la prochaine décennie\, avec un house-band citadin n’incluant aucune personne ayant participé aux enregistrements. DESCRIPTION:Samedi 24 septembre\, 20h.\nPiano Jam\nLes soirées Piano Jam aux sans-taverne reprennent où elles avaient laissé.\nUn contexte décontracté autour d’une bonne bière\, où n’importe qui peut débarquer et profiter de l’ambiance de notre superbe piano à queue.\n\nNous aurons toujours quelques pianistes qui auront confirmé leur présence afin d’assurer un bon calibre\, mais gênez-vous pas.\n\nLes soirées où il y aura beaucoup de candidat-es\, nous dresserons une liste avec heure et ordre approximatifs.\n\nLe tout\, sous l’oeil vigilant (et l’oreille attentive) de notre piano man régulier\, Vincent.\nLes contributions volontaires serviront à l’entretien de notre vieux piano.\n\nC’est un rdv samedi le 24 septembre prochain dès 20h.\n—\n \nThe Piano Jam evenings at Sans-Taverne are picking up where they left off.\nA relaxed setting with a good beer\, where anyone can come and enjoy the ambiance of our beautiful grand piano.\nWe will always have a few pianists who have confirmed their presence to ensure a good caliber\, but don’t be shy.\nOn evenings when there are many candidates\, we will make a list with approximate time and order.\nAll this\, under the watchful eye (and attentive ear) of our regular piano man\, Vincent.\nVoluntary contributions will be used for the maintenance of our old piano.\nIt’s a date on Saturday sept. 23th at 8pm.
